Kazakhstan is preparing to make changes to its list of professional holidays — Energy Workers’ Day may be given an official date and status.
This was announced by Askar Biyakhmetov, Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to him, a draft order has already been developed and submitted to the Ministry of Justice for approval. The proposed official date is December 22.
Currently, Energy Workers’ Day is observed informally on the third Sunday of December, without a fixed date. Setting it on December 22 would establish it as a permanent date in the national calendar, aligning with the practice in many CIS countries.
Experts say that assigning a fixed date will emphasize the importance of the profession and standardize the celebration across the country — especially against the backdrop of Kazakhstan’s actively developing energy sector.
If approved, Kazakhstan may begin officially celebrating Energy Workers’ Day on December 22 starting this year.
